History
Winder Electrical, the Leeds based electrical engineering company, has appointed a new Chief Executive.
Richard Asquith brings a wealth of experience to the company after many years in the engineering industry.
Spent all his working life in the manufacturing sector, mainly in electrical machinery. Formative years in the Electric Motor division of Hawker Siddeley: was part of the management team during its expansion from £17m to £430m turnover, much through mergers and acquisitions.
Spent 15 years in private sector building and consolidating manufacturing businesses.
Key strengths are identifying abilities and growing strong, multi-disciplined teams.
Winder Electrical, one of the leading electrical engineering companies in Europe, has beaten fierce competition to win its first major contract across the Irish Sea.
The Leeds-based company has landed a lucrative three-year deal with Northern Ireland Electricity for the design, construction and supply of power transformers.
The first transformers are already in production and will be crossing the water to Belfast in June.
The rest, being built in a variety of capacities, from 6.25MVA through 18.75MVA and 25MVA, will follow between then and the end of 2006.
Leeds based Winder Electrical and Newton Derby, specialists in the design and manufacture of power generation and electrical equipment, have announced a management buyout.
Winder Power Limited, the well known Leeds Transformer and Generator Manufacturer, is moving to newer and larger premises. This move will bring a new dimension to the company’s expansion drive and to its commitment to customer service.
The new headquarters, still in Leeds, close to Winder Power’s existing Pudsey business, will provide the enhanced facilities for continued growth. The Company’s operating divisions - Winder Electrical and Newton Derby - are both long established suppliers to the power generation sector. Winder Electrical manufactures power and distribution transformers and switchgear for utilities, transportation and industry, whilst Newton Derby produces permanent magnet generators and exciters to the power generation industry, transportation and defence markets.
Scheduled for completion during the second quarter of 2008, the new premises will nearly double Winder Power’s manufacturing capability, offer larger crane facilities, and provide a more efficient office environment for the growing team.
General Manager Paul Matthews is positive of the benefits of the move to the team and customers alike, as he explains. “The new premises will increase our manufacturing space, which will speed up workflow through certain parts of the process that were bottlenecks in our old facilities. The greater crane capacity will give us more flexibility and allow us to use the floor space to maximize efficiency.”
“Meanwhile, the office accommodation will allow us to lay out the sales, design and management team areas in a more ergonomically efficient manner for improved communication and general comfort, all of which should help productivity.”

Winder Electrical specialise in the design, build, deployment and management of power transformers and distribution transformers.
